INJURIES, INSURANCE and INCIDENTS
Q. What happens when a player is injured at training?
A. The coaching staff will tend to the injury in the first instance. If the injury is serious, the player (and their parents when Under 18) should seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
Q. What happens when a player is injured during a game?
A. Level 1 Medical Trainers are present at every Penrith Junior League game. These trainers have the skills to identify and treat muscular injuries, fractures and head injuries. In the case of a serious injury, the player may be stretchered off the field and an ambulance may be called.
Q. Can a parent go onto the field if their child is injured during a game?
A. PARENTS AND GUARDIANS SHOULD NOT RUN ONTO THE FIELD UNLESS PERMISSION HAS BEEN GIVEN BY A REFEREE, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. If the injury does not turn out to be serious, and you run onto the field, you may face disciplinary action at a Penrith Junior League conduct review panel. In the case of a serious injury, ask a touch judge or manager to ask the permission of the referee BEFORE you take the field.
Q. What paperwork must be completed if a player suffers an injury?
A. Whether the player suffers an injury at training, or in a game, the manager or trainer should complete an injury report. A copy of the injury report should be given to the player/parents, secretary of the club and kept with the team records (3 copies in total).
Q. What paperwork must be completed if a player suffers a head injury?
A. As well as an injury report, the trainer who tends to the injury will submit head injury notification paperwork regardless of whether the injury is major or minor. Copies of the paperwork should be submitted to the player/parent, club secretary and kept with the team records. The player may have to get clearance from a doctor before they can train or play again.
Q. What happens if there are out-of-pocket expenses in the case of injury?
A. Junior League clubs do not manage insurance claims. These are dealt with by the Penrith Junior League. You should complete an insurance claim form and submit it to the Penrith JL - the club secretary will need to sign this form before you submit it to the Junior League.
